Design Philosophy, Background, and Experience

The owner and founder of Be Green Consulting, Brennan Schumacher brings a wealth of practical electrical design and green building experience to his clients’ projects. A graduate of Dunwoody Institute’s Electrical Design and Construction Management program, Brennan has served as primary lead designer for multi-million dollar projects for clients such as the New Belgium Brewing Company and the City of Fort Collins, Colorado. Through his employer for these projects, Brennan formed a ‘green initiative’, which was effective in helping the company to employ more environmentally sustainable business and construction practices. Becoming LEED accredited in 2002, Brennan served a dual role for the firm as LEED Consultant and Lighting Designer, specializing in daylight harvesting and energy efficient strategies. During this time he supplemented his accreditation with advanced LEED courses (for information about LEED certification, click here).

A desire to play a larger role in influencing the performance of a building and its impact on the environment eventually led Brennan to start Be Green Consulting™ (BGC) in Bellingham, Washington. Founded in 2004, BGC offers sustainable design services that provide a healthy and productive environment for occupants. Architectural lighting design services that integrate daylight to maximize energy savings and provide a high quality visual environment are also offered. Additionally, the firm provides services in sustainable design, green building consulting, and LEED™ consulting. Through these services, building owners and occupants can enhance their local ecosystem while saving energy through conservation and efficiency. BGC is also active in providing educational services in green building and LEED processes through workshops and presentations.

Be Green Consulting works in conjunction with David Nelson & Associates, LLC providing architectural lighting design with a focus on sustainability on a number of high profile projects that are pushing the envelope in the green building industry. BGC also works with a local non-profit education, awareness, technical assistance and advocacy organization called Sustainable Connections, where Brennan serves as the technical advisor to the Sustainable Design and Green Building Program. BGC is a proud member of the United States Green Building Council, Sustainable Connections and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
